An Introduction to Valpolicella

Valpolicella is the red wine made around the city of Verona. It is a wine whose history of quality is actually very recent. In my opinion, it offers better value than almost any area in all of Italy. Tonight we will see a range of wines that show off the various styles of Valpolicella from a fresh style to the expensive, and deservedly so, Amarone. The cost of tonights class is $40 plus tax & gratuity. Be sure to reserve by calling the restaurant only, as we are sure to sell out.

Dining Out for Life

A serious moment...

How would you like to be house bound with a life threatening disease or other condition that makes it impossible for you to maintain a healthy, life sustaining diet? Or to be homeless and pregnant or diabetic and in need of meals? Who helps folks like this in Washington DC?

Food & Friends is the organization that started out giving to the HIV/AIDS community, providing nourishing meals and human contact to folks in need. But this organization found so many others in need of similar support that their mission grew. Today, Food & Friends has a client list of almost 20,000 who get a little dignity and food when they otherwise might not. And in this toughest of times, Food & Friends has actually had to create a waiting list for new clients. Thankfully, right now the waiting list is empty. If you want to help ensure that it stays that way, and EVERYONE who needs their services can get them, please support Food & Friends in their good work.

One simple way to do this is to go out to one of the participating restaurants on Thursday, March 11 for Dining Out for Life. Every year since we opened, we have been a part of this effort. But what has been so heartening is the way our customers go above and beyond, giving extra donations when they dine. Food & Friends tells us that our food friends are amongst the most generous in the city, and I hope you help us make this the best year yet! We will open early at 5pm. Please get together a group of friends and come out. It is always a great evening. Please be sure to bring your checkbook. If you can give a little extra - great! (Or even better, a lot extra!) Also, do Food & Friends a favor: book early, eat fast, and head on out so we can get more butts in the seats for this good cause!

Passover Dinner at Dino

Every year one of our favorite traditions at Dino is serving a traditional Passover meal in honor of my mother, Ella Gold. For many years, a huge seder was a part of growing up and helping my mom prepare it was one of my best memories.

Passover Dinner will be served Monday March 29 thru April 4 2010 We will open at 5:00pm Monday March 29 in order that you can finish your meal by sunset {7:29pm} 4 courses for 55 per person ~ kids for 25 flight of 4 glasses of {non kosher} wine +20 We can provide a Seder Plate for the first two nights of Passover at your request. If you wish to conduct your own seder, remember that it's BYOH {Bring your own Haggadah}!

Easter Brunch at Dino

Join us as we offer our annual Easter Brunch. Dino will be open from 11:00am until our last reservation at 8:30pm. We will have plenty of larger tables for a family gathering. Our ala carte Easter Brunch is served 11am until 3:30 pm Sunday April 4, 2010 with a Kid's Menu available as well. Scott will have his usual brunch libations, alcoholic & non alcoholic, for your tippling pleasure. We will offer our regular dinner menu starting at 3:30pm until our last dinner reservation at 8:30pm.

An Introduction to Montalcino

Make no mistake about it, Montalcino is my idea of the perfect wine. Nowhere else does Sangiovese grow to such a level of quality, in my no so humble opinion. These are not super ripe, hedonistic fruit bombs that Chianti Classico seems to be morphing into but lean, balanced and big wines that can age as well as be enjoyed in the first flush of their youth. Tonight we will sample a range of Rosso di Montalcino and a Brunello. Since these are wines that retail from $30 to $100 a bottle, the cost of tonight's class will be $40 plus tax & gratuity. We have already sold out on April 18 and have added an additional Sunday class April 25. Be sure to call the restaurant to reserve your spot!.

Father's Day Weekend at Dino

In the restaurant, Mom is the big star: Mother's Day is one of the businest days of the year. At Dino, we love mom as well, but we like to put on a special weekend for Dads! We start with the Italian Steakhouse at Dino beginning Friday June 18 and running thru Father's Day. We break out big pieces of meat cooked Italian style for dad's dining pleasure. Then on Father's day itself, we offer Brunch as well. Dino will be open from 11:00am until our last reservation at 8:30pm. We will have plenty of larger tables for a family gathering. Our ala carte Father's Day Brunch served 11am until 3:30 pm Sunday April 4, 2010 with a Kid's Menu available as well.
